The enrolment of the school in 2009 is 137 students. Most children come from the township of Anglesea which has a diverse socio-economic community and travel to the school by car, bicycle or on foot. The school is organised into seven classrooms, consisting of three classes of years P-2, two of years 3-4 and two of years 5-6.Parents are strongly encouraged to participate in their children’s education. The home/school partnership is important in developing a shared responsibility for the learning outcomes of the children. Parental participation is not restricted to the mandatory areas of school council and its subcommittees but is actively encouraged across the board resulting in parents being involved in curriculum programs, working bees, excursions, sports, special events, information and professional development activities. There is also a school council and constituted parent’s club.
The school prides itself on curriculum innovation. Early Years Literacy, Early Years Numeracy, Inquiry Based Learning, I.C.T. (Information and Communication Technology), Science, Art, Physical Education and music all have a high profile within the school.
Students are regularly involved with the wider community through many environmental programs, special activities, community projects and visits to the elderly at Blue Cross and other venues. The children are consider themselves to be part of the community and future citizens.
School Council capitalises on Anglesea’s status as a holiday destination by organising a number of markets at strategic times throughout the year which are excellent fund raisers for the school as well as raising the profile of the school in the community.
The opportunity for all students to perform is offered through school concerts and various smaller performances. Other activities include a Walkathon, mini-fete, multi-age special events days, Grandparents Day and a number of special weeks such as Literacy Week, Book Week and Book Fair.
An After School Care and Before School Program is provided as a service to families and is coordinated by two experienced and qualified staff members.
At present the school provides a comprehensive curriculum in: English, Mathematics, The Arts, Health & Physical Education, Science, Humanities, ICT (Information and Communication Technology), Technology and Languages other than English (LOTE – Bahasa Indonesian).
Specialist teachers provide Art, Music, Singing, Physical Education, Sport and Library, LOTE and Student Wellbeing programs are also provided. Special assistance programs include Reading Recovery, Oral Language intervention, Literacy and Numeracy Intervention and Literacy and Numeracy Extension Program for higher achievers.
To support these curriculum areas, the following enrichment programs are provided: Life Education Van, Religious Education, Bike Ed, Junior School Council, I.C.T. (Information and Communication Technologies), camping and outdoor adventure programs, swimming and surfing, inter school sports, incursions, excursions, singing group, peer support, buddies, developmental play, parent education programs, Peer Mediation and the Forward Together Program.
