Community Contact
Community Projects:
Students are engaged in a range of community projects where they do important work for our community.
Recent projects included:
Communication: Writing articles for Newsangle (local community newspaper) about what is happening at the school; producing monthly editions of Anglesea Eyes (community calendar of events) and during woodwork sessions making items for local community groups.
A-Rock: The students promote environmental issues on our own radio station, A-Rock!
Knitting: The students enjoyed learning to knit! Knitted bears were given to the Geelong Hospital so children who are staying there have a toy to play with. Some parents and community members assisted us with our knitting.
Visits to Anglesea Blue Cross.
Each month a group of Grade 5 and 6 students visit the residents at Anglesea Blue Cross. On a recent visit the students and residents played the games Sjoelbak and a Bean Bag game.
Bela of Grade 5 said, “We played Sjoelbak and a Bean Bag game. It was fun. Sjoelbak is a game from Germany. You start with 18 counters and at the end of the table is a board with holes in it. We threw the counter and tried to get it into one of the holes. Each time a counter went into a hole, we scored points. For afternoon tea we had a drink of lemonade and some yo-yo’s. It is fun visiting the residents at Blue Cross”.
Jordan from Grade 5 said,” Playing Sjoelbak and a Bean Bag game was fun. It was really good to see the residents have a go and see how well they went at both games. I liked the Bean Bag game the best because it was a challenge to try and get the highest score. Afternoon tea was great. The yo-yo’s and drinks were very nice.”
Active After School Communities Program.
At Anglesea Primary School there is a program that provides active programs after school every Monday, Tuesday and Friday. During 2008, the activities were Gymnastics, Fishing, Tennis, Circus, Martial Arts, Golf and Surf Life Saving.
