A Message from the Principal

Anglesea Primary School is an innovative school, which prides itself on ‘up to date’ teaching and learning practice that seeks to achieve the best possible outcomes for each and every student.

Students are given opportunities to understand themselves as learners and to gain powerful learning strategies that will prepare them for their learning in the future. Students are also given many opportunities to engage with a range of community members so as to build connectedness and a sense of belonging to our local community.

Our school is located on the Surf Coast and is set in a picturesque bush setting that is surrounded by indigenous heathland. The school building is located on a 3.3 hectare site and provides an attractive landscaped environment with dynamic play areas and outdoor learning spaces. These include a kitchen garden, an indigenous garden, soccer and football oval, basketball and netball courts, adventure playground, passive and active play spaces.

Currently we have 153 students.

Our ‘small school’ allows for a personalised and individualised approach to everything we do. Each student has an individual learning plan that reflects the child’s social, emotional and academic needs. This is the basis of determining each child’s learning goals and support networks.

The school offers quality Out of School Hours Care – before and after school, in a spacious multi purpose room that has access to the outdoor and other indoor learning spaces.

The school is organised into two collaborative learning centres.

Junior Learning Centre (Years Prep, One and Two) consisting of four multi-aged home groups in a large, flexible and interactive space with access to smaller learning spaces, outdoor learning spaces, multi-purpose room, large stadium, art and science spaces.

Senior Learning Centre (Years Three, Four, Five and Six) consisting of four home groups in a large, flexible and interactive space with access to smaller learning spaces, outdoor learning spaces, multi-purpose room, large stadium, art and science spaces.

These spaces are technology rich and provide ready access to a range of technologies such as Interactive White boards, iPods, iPads, Netbooks, cameras, internet etc. Students in years 4, 5 and 6 have use of their own ‘take home’ devices.

The school is well-resourced with a wide range of teaching and learning materials, sporting equipment, books etc.

We have a technology infrastructure integrated across all of the learning centres, inclusive of laptops, iPad and other mobile technology.

Anglesea is well known for its innovative curriculum approaches and hosts teachers and principals from across the state and beyond wanting to learn more about the teaching innovation at our school.

Teachers in the school work in teams and provide an excellent educational program for all students. Students also participate in specialist classes in Indonesian, Physical Education, Music, Visual and Performing Arts.

The school aims to foster harmonious and effective communication between all members of the school community. Collaboration and cooperation between staff, students, parents and the wider community is highly valued.

Parents and friends, through various voluntary work, contribute a great deal to the benefit of the school. School council, parents club, garden monitoring group, kitchen garden group as well as parents, grandparents and friends are highly active and supportive. Their contribution is exceptional.

The staff and I look forward to welcoming you to our school if you wish to tour our facilities and to see our students learning.
